Derrick Savoie, Guitar
Derrick brings 12 years of musical experience to the classroom as a musician and songwriter. A love for singing at a young age blossomed into a love for all things music when Derrick picked up his first guitar at the age of 12. Derrick is a self-taught/self-educated musician that brings a new learning approach to the table.
Over the last several years, Derrick has garnered a name for himself as an up-and-coming songwriter in the Lafayette music scene. He has worked with a variety of producers (Sean Bruce, Paul Broussard, Kieran McIntosh) in a multitude of studios (Leap Studios, Savoy Faire, Staffland, KRVS, Chad Viator). As a professional musician, Derrick has fronted the Lafayette indie rock band Foxfire, toured the country with songwriter Steven Joubert, and is currently recording his debut solo album. Derrick’s main musical influences come from a variety of different styles, but can be mainly attributed to Americana Folk and Indie Rock. Some of Derrick’s favorite artists include: The Avett Brothers, Death Cab For Cutie, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Kendrick Lamar.
Derrick’s main focus as a music instructor is not only to provide a rich productive environment, but also a fun and creative one. Derrick believes that fun, creativity, and the feeling of accomplishment are all vital parts of the learning process when it comes to music, and Derrick aims to instruct his students in such a way.
