Brianna Simmons, Voice
Brii, a native of Lockport, La., is a Senior at UL Lafayette studying Vocal Music Education. She has completed multiple workshops and master classes on the history and performance of Musical Theatre, alongside her classical training in Opera. She has appeared in UL Opera Theatre productions including Les Misérables and You’re Gonna Love Tomorrow: A Stephen Sondheim Evening. Outside of her collegiate shows, Brii has musically directed a production called Flapper: The Roarin’ Twenties at Central Lafourche High School, and worked as a backstage hand in the UL Lafayette Opera Theatre show Viva Italia!: An Evening of Italian Opera.
She is a member of the UL Chamber Singers, and Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church Choir in Opelousas, La. With UL Chamber Singers she had had the opportunity to tour Southern Louisiana, premiering choral music and singing in a master class with Dr. Mack Wilberg (Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir). Between 2010-2014 Brii placed numerous times in the Lafourche Parish Farm Bureau singing competition and in 2011, participated in the Center Stage singing competition in Houma, La. In her high school choir, Brii trained as both an alto and soprano vocalist, participated in advanced Vocal Ensemble, as well as Parish & District Honor Choirs. She was part of the Talented and Gifted program, studying voice individually and learning music theory from sophomore year on. She is continuing her studies in vocal music and is set to graduate from UL Lafayette in 2018. Brii comes from a legacy of female singers in her family, and has a deep love and passion for contemporary and classical music.
Brii’s future aspirations include teaching high school choir and some day directing show choirs and musicals. She also dreams of pursuing a masters degree in Musical Theatre!
